Covers & Remixes

Unless you live under a rock, you are aware of the new Beastie Boys album that is about to drop.  They've got a new video for the lead single, with cameos galore.  They streamed the whole album at MSG after it leaked the other day.  Found this remix of Make Some Noise by Passion Pit on both Stereogum & Pretty Much Amazing.  And now you can haz:

This next on is a cover by Teen Daze, who we've covered before, of Japandroids awesome sauce song Wet Hair (via I Hope Your Ears Bleed).  Has a great 8-bit feel to it, and in this guy's opinion is a excellent take on the song.  Teen Daze should be on your radar. Let me help you:

Just saw Cut Copy & Holy Ghost! at the Troc the other week, so this remix seems appropriate.  (Quick footnote, if you are not already listening to the Holy Ghost! album and enjoy 80's dance music, I urge you to drop whatever it is you are doing and get said music in your life stat.  They are for serious.)  Here is Detroit DJ Carl Craig's take on Cut Copy's Need You Now (via A Heart is A Spade), one of the better tracks on a very good album put out by Cut Copy earlier this year.

Last one is another cover of a band I got to witness in person last night at the First Unitarian Church, Tame Impala.  Here is sample master Mark Ronson take on their song.  You can download it for free over at Some Kind of Awesome.

Why Aren't You Listening to This!!

First things first, I want to say thank you to everyone who wrote me while I was away on vacation.  The exact change inbox was full of emails worried about when I'd be back and would the music industry collapse while I was away, but most of all full of emails about how I can make my junk 3" bigger in just a few weeks or lottery opportunities in third world countries where I was the potential recipient of a small fortune.  Just want to personally say how thoughtful it is of you guys to be thinking about my financial gains and unrelated short comings (insert rimshot).

But, uh, back to the lecture at hand.  Perfection is perfected, so I'm 'a let 'em understand.  From a young G's perspective (there I go again).  I want to put this new act that we've discussed on here before back in front of your face.  Persistence breaks all barriers I'm told, so here we go.

Teen Daze is a Canadian by way of Vancouver group has been dubbed by some outfits as the chillest band alive!  Here is their myspace page (other than music geeks, does ANYONE use myspace?).  It is more of that bliss sounding music that I am pushing and pushing upon the 10's of readers I have.  They are set to release their first album via Arcade Sound Ltd.on 7/27, which also has Memoryhouse and Millionyoung under its wings (wOOt).  Ambient synths galore!!  Don't believe me about these up and comers?  I got 40 (more like 3) nations ready to roll son:

TD Cali Tour (via xlr8r)
TD remix of Local Natives track "Wide Eyes" (via Stereogum)
Review of "Four More Years" (via This Music Wins)

Unofficial (I honestly have no idea if its legit or not) video for "Shine on, You Crazy White Cap":

Rock and/or Roll Mix Bag

Fabriclive.29Cut Copy interviewed with Pitchfork about their new album, which comes out in January and how its bittersweet to be invited to tour with Lady Gaga.  Pros: Tour with stadiums of hot chicks and notoriety, Cons: all that is/associated with that media vacuum/attention whore.

Future BreedsI miss Hot Hot Heat.  I can distinctly remember taking the train back and forth to D.C. and bumping "Make Up the Breakdown" on every trip.  Check out Pitchfork's review of the new album.  I love it, and I'm happy they are back in my rotation.

Let the summer music wash over you.  This hazy, 60's AM, upbeat sound continues to completely dominate my playlist.

Less hazy and more garage-y (?), digging this new Black Lips track from the Adult Swim weekly giveaway

Found this guy via twitter and I can't resist music that builds up like this, give it a whirl:

Bonnaroo has just closed up and before the weekend started, RCRD LBL put up a playlist of a group of the artists that are performing.  Totally worth a listen:

Last but not least, well everything up to now has been gold so maybe least.  Another crazy video from OK Go.  I feel like these guys spend more time figuring out their music videos then they spend on the actual music.  Either way, they've got a niche and people love the videos, check it out after the jump(via Vulture):
